1. Ive thoroughly enjoyed using twitter so far this semester. i am an avid Twitter user outside of this class so using it for educational purposes is a lot of fun. i havent been interacting with too many people outside of some the tech talks, but i am always open to expanding my digital profile in terms of my educative twitter profile. twitter can be very useful in my career field. i can have classes follow a main twitter account (mine) and i will have updates on education talks and maybe reminders for certain students that assignment due dates are upcoming. twitter may be a distraction considering it is a popular social media site, but if used properly it can be a major help for students and teachers.
2. The digital divide influences students throughout the country. Be aware about the inequalities between certain ethnic groups such as minorities and the impoverished who face a lack of resources and the lack of accessibility to high speed internet. Some underprivileged students and homes have trouble accessing a computer. As a teacher I think it would be responsible to get an idea about who in your class has the accessibility to a computer and internet and who doesn’t. This would be approached carefully as those who don’t have accessibility would not like to be singled out and perhaps humiliated. One-on-ones with each student talking about their access to high speed internet would be important because they must be approached differently with assignments and homework in terms of due dates and tutoring. Helping underprivileged students find access to these resources will help both the student and the teacher.
3. I think Microsoft apps such as Word and Powerpoint will be useful for students to succeed academically at an early age. Throughout their academic careers students will be using such software to turn in assignments in both high school and college. They are easy for users and the benefits they have for professional documents to be made proves its influence on business and education. Being as I am striving to become an English teacher, Dictionary.com and Thesaurus.com will be useful for students to understand words and how to properly use them in a sentence while finding better description words to make their documents appear more professional.
