 1. I’ve used Microsoft Word my entire education career. I’ve always found the program user friendly and essential for both students AND teachers alike. I've found that assignments and essays can be done efficiently through Microsoft Word. I would like to expand my knowledge on formatting and the use of cover pages. I prefer the use of Microsoft Word because of the experience I've gained through it and how easy it is to send documents with it, whereas Google docs may take a few extra steps to get the right file format.

2. The ISTE Standards for Educators is a blueprint for efficient learning for both educators and students using new technology that the 21st century has offered. The Leader standard helps student confidence through access and engagement with such new technology. The mix of adequate teachers and the opportunity to meet the technological needs of several groups of students allows for the most capable learning for students. As teachers are role models by continuously educating students on how to use technology, children have the chance of receiving the necessary resources for an efficient learning environment. I believe this to be the most meaningful standard because it combines the idea of passionate teachers who are capable of meeting the needs of a growing community of students and the opportunity for administrations to meet the technological needs of all students, both privileged and under-privileged.

3. I don’t agree with the term “digital native” as it pertains to a technologically savvy generation of students because it generalizes a generation of students who do not receive the same technological and educational resources. I believe the term is for those privileged enough to grow up with technology at home, but those who aren’t able to access technology are left behind. Student access to technology is a controversial topic in the United States regarding education reform and it isn’t fair for those who are underprivileged to be held at the same standards as those who have such access. Younger teachers seem to be more knowledgeable with the use of technology than older teachers, and this is based on my personal experiences in education. As more years go by, those who aren't as technologically savvy will be at odds with everyone else.

  1. Hey!

I like what you said about the digital native question, you are 100% correct about the accessibility of technology being a little scratchy. With everyone being able to access technology it would move the world to even more heights because some people have the ideas, just not the resources and technology is a huge part of that.

  2. You make a very good point about the use of the term digital native! I hadn't even considered the part that privilege plays in one's digital fluency. I'll admit that I was privileged enough to have access to technology all through my education. I hope that this is a reform that the new wave of educators pay special attention to, especially because you're right that many under-privileged students may be left behind.
